Tournament Rules

The Neptune Cove Invitational is a match play event consisting of six 9-hole matches. The U.S.G.A. Rules of Golf shall govern all play unless otherwise stated below.

  • The Embedded ball rule is in effect through the green.
  • The ball is to be played as it lies with the exception of areas marked by white lines indicating ground under repair.

According to the rules of golf, a player may obtain relief from Ground Under Repair if either the Player’s stance or area of intended swing is within the confines of the marked area. The player may obtain relief from the situation by locating the nearest point of relief completely free from the Ground Under Repair condition, no nearer the hole, and drop within one club length from that point. Please note that it is the player’s option whether or not to take relief.

Behind and to the right of the green on hole #17 is a service road that by the rules of golf is deemed an immovable obstruction, and will be played as Ground Under Repair.

  • All Out of Bounds areas are marked by white stakes.

The natural boundary forming the inside edges of the driveway between holes #1 and #9 defines Out of Bounds.

For a ball to be deemed Out of Bounds, the entire ball must be Out of Bounds. If any part of the ball touches the boundary line or lies within bounds; the ball is in play. In accordance to rule 27, decision 20, concerning a ball which crosses the defined boundary but comes to rest on another part of the course, the ball is deemed Out of Bounds. This rule is applicable to holes #16 & #2, and holes #1 & #9.

  • Practice is prohibited during the round from the putting green of the last hole played. Participants are not allowed to play the tournament course in between matches.
  • All players must either use a caddie or a cart. No participants will be permitted to carry a golf bag.
  • It is a Golf Committee requirement that a fully completed, legible scorecard be signed, attested, and turned in at the Scoring Area located on The Common immediately upon completion of each match.
  • The Golf Professional Staff will be responsible for the posting of match results.
  • The Golf Committee and the Handicap Chairman reserve the right to review and determine final handicaps of all participants. Flighting and handicap allocation will be posted 72 hours prior to the event.
  • All other rulings must be brought to the Rules Committee’s attention as soon as possible. In the event of a questionable rules interpretation, please play a second ball and then consult the Committee for a ruling. All rules and decisions regarding this tournament will be made by the Rules Committee and are final.
  • Ties – All ties will be decided based upon head-to-head match results. In the event teams split head-to-head matches, ties will be broken based upon the results of matches within their flight beginning with the next highest placed team working downward. In the event all matches results were identical, a playoff will begin on hole #1.
